Family Fear

Pokémon Sun/Moon and Resident Evil 7 have quite a lot of similarities with each other. Their announcements were milestone celebrations of 20 years, their gameplay elements retool the mainstays of their respective series, their plot involves themes regarding family, and have the arc number 7. Even some of the issues that fans had with previous entries are resolved to some degree.

Both games' antagonists are female twist villains who are motivated by love (or a warped idea of love), force others to do their bidding, and would destroy anyone and anything rejecting them. Lusamine and Eveline are not initially presented fully as the enemy until the later part of their stories, with Team Skull and the Baker family (respectively) being shown as such. They seem harmless, with Lusamine acting courteous and helpful while Eveline appears as a young child. In reality, they’re psychotic enemies who become even more unhinged when their schemes go downhill, culminating in their transformation into giant tentacled monsters.

The two villainesses have their differences when it comes to their roles in their respective stories. Lusamine is a mother who shuns her children when they reject her idea of "love", whereas Eveline is a child who forces Mia and Ethan into becoming her "Mommy" and "Daddy". Lusamine is under the influence of Nihilego's neurotoxins, Eveline uses her fungus to influence the Bakers. Lusamine appears to be late teens to early 20s but is actually in her 40s, whereas Eveline appears 10 (in hallucinations)/80 (in true form) when she's actually 3.

Pokémon belongs to Satoshi Tajiri, Nintendo, GameFreak, and The Pokémon Company. Resident Evil belongs to Shinji Mikami and Capcom.
